This is not an officiall BMAD ride out but I'm going and would be happy to ride up to the Severn Services with company if anyone else intends going and would enjoy others along.
My daughter got me the ticket so I can claim a T shirt, and I'll be looking to meet up with her there, but as she is a BMAD member and knows some of you guys anyway we could ride all together from the start point for the actual "Hoggin"
Anyone up for it? _________________ Ride hard, ride safe

I'm up for it Tilla - already got my ticket. Have just posted something on 'events' before I saw you post. Guess we'll arrange a meet up point a little later. _________________ Shark |

Hope you made it Applicationcen, but Sowton Services is not at Newton Abbot! Bungle's info was correct and three of us met up there at 8 and left at about 10 past. ie Neil, Norman and me.
We stopped for coffee at Gordano because we were frozen and expected long queues later at the meet and then rode on to the old Severn Bridge services where there were hordes of bikes. Met up with daughter Debs by dint of text and mobile and did the ride - whoa - never again! Les was right when he said he was giving it a miss because he'd heard it is a lot of heavy clutch work. Although the roundabouts were marshalled and the bridge itself was easy riding when we got on to the villages and smaller roads we were stuck in a major traffic jam of bikes. Debs got hacked off with it and began filtering, we followed, but still we spent a lot of time going nowhere fast.
In the villages we got a lovely welcome and the roads were lined with people waving and holding their hands out for a passing biker "High five" , so the atmosphere was uplifting and Chepstow made us welcome at the end of it all, with parking being allowed anywhere that a bike would fit and roads closed for us to be able to ge around the town easily.
So, I'm glad I did it because it is another to tick off my list of "must do's" but I won't be doing it next year. _________________ Ride hard, ride safe

I got to Newton Scratch-pit at 8.05am and met up with a bunch of Harley people. I was very cold on the back road from Torquay in to Newton Pits, but did not realise how bad it would get until I got on the M5 to Sowton, (meeting with another bunch of Harleys at 9.05am).
Boy oh boy motorway speeds with a tee shirt under air leaky jacket and summer gloves was not the best way to be dressed for 80 further miles up the M5.
I returned home, reluctantly, with the intention to catch them again. They had 2 more pick up spots at junction 27 and then Gordano. So I wazzed home and got warm gear on! My fingers were so sore when I got warmed up in the house. Then I had a mad dash to Gordano, where I missed my Harley mob by minutes!
Finally, I actually overtook them on the M48, as they were trapped in slow exiting traffic from the services car park. The stewards were waiving me and other late comers past the services as there was no room on the parking areas.
What a cavalcade over the bridge! I had called my mate on the Harley from the Chepstow bridge over the M48 and he said they were trying to exit the services, but it was a painful exit, as the bikes were filtering out in 2’s.
All the children Hi Fiveing the bikers! Cameras, videos and smiling waiving people! Quite by chance I had got overtaken by the Devon Harley mob just after Chepstow, so it was very lucky that I got back in with them for the home trip. We did the big loop back to the M48.
I found the trip home seemed to be in to the wind. Whereas on the way out my helmet was very steady, on the way back it seemed to be lifted off my head in the air stream and waggling! Hey Ho, lots of fun. What a good day out! SOOO many bikes! |
