Hi Tilla.
Thanks.
We've just confirmed our moving date to Paignton is 24th and 25th September so we'll try to get down to the Social Evening at the Embassy on the Friday night as well.
I'm praying (well I would be if I were a religious person, otherwise I'm just hoping) that the weather will be fine so I can make it to the last Bike Night of the season on my bike. I'll help out with some marshalling as well.
Pete. |

What a terrific night we had! Many thanks to all those who put in so much effort to make this evening a success! A small army turned out on Saturday morning to prepare the space and the food, gazebos went up, floors were swept, bar-b-q was cleaned and mountains of food was got ready!
I counted 52 people enjoying the atmosphere by 8 o'clock when the burgers and hot dogs began to roll off the grill. We took £243 and the Embassy emptied their bar collection bottle into the coffers, giving us another £50! Not a bad evening for an event that was not meant as a fund raiser.
In addition we had 5 more members join and two other folks come forward asking to marshal and promising to be there for our last Wednesday night, and again for the festival.
The raffle got off to an awkward start with Neil winning the first prize, which he had donated! So we drew again. The last prize was won by Lenny, who was at a loss to know what to do with a Kawasaki T shirt, but Andrew, Sue's brother, bought it off him for a £10 donation to BMAD.
Comic Awards were presented. Below is a rough transcript of what was said, for those who couldn't hear, had too much to drink to take in what was being said, and for those who were not there.
"The whole evening is a Big Thank You to you all and those like you, without whom BMAD could not run our events. We can not possibly say Thank You properly to everyhone individually, you are all stars, but in the mood of the evening and as a little fun, we are making a token award to some for services rendered:
Our first award is Chief Fixit. It goes to the guy we know we can turn to when things are going wrong and we need a bit of help. He is always ready to lend a hand and do his best to sort it out. Miff, please step forward. " Award - a gold fairy wand.
Our second award is for someone who was a local biker and who knew nothing about BMAD or bike nights. Then he found out his next door neighbour was our chief festival marshal and he came along to his first bike night. He joined up on that night and has not missed one since, marshalling every Wednesday except for one when he had a bad tummny. The Keenest Newcomer award goes to Les" Award - a fluffy white halo.
The third prize is the Hairy Biker Award. This goes to a chap who rides his bike like a bat out of hell, is always ready to give his mates a hand and has a terrific sense of humour. He lives by the Bikers Code. Lenny, you are the Hairy Biker" Award - a flick comb
Fourth Award - We have a Party Animal - this biker is always first to arrive and last to leave when there's a party going on. As she likes a drink or two the Award is - a set of Drinking Glasses. Debs, please come and recieve them" The glasses were a drinking straw that fitted around her specs and a pair of tumblers.
Next Award -The Chief Butt - this chap has been the subject of much mirth and leg pulling and as the season came toward its end he wore the situaiton with grim humour as he waited for his bike to arrive and be ready to go on the road. He took the heat splendidly and proved that he knows how to take it all with a pinch of salt - so his prize is a cruet set - Andy"
And finally - the guy who has not only re-desinged our web site and but moderates our forum. He spends hours sweaitng over his computer, so its time he got - a new mouse! Chris, please come forward" The mouse was grey and fluffy and doubles as a back pack.
There were to be a three awards for the Walking Wounded - people who have had bad health and yet have shown up to take the money and welcome bikes onto the Green night after night. These people are - Kerri, Jo and Double Debs - and thier awards will be presented on the final bike night.
The thank you's go on - bu we owe a special thanks to the saff and crew of the Embassy who pulled out all the stops and worked like slaves last night. Thank you all! _________________ Ride hard, ride safe

Thanks for the drinking glasses - it was a complete surprise to find out that you think I like a drink or two....can't imagine why that is!!!?
Must say that drinking brandy through those way out whacky glasses definitely adds to the kick of the alcohol, well I'm assuming that they're to blame for the floor moving when I tried to stand up and the very odd sensation in my head and stomach this morning!!!! (or maybe it was finishing off Lenny's pint that did it??)
Cheers guys and girls a very much appreciated gesture.

What an absolutely fantastic night. Thanks to all those who worked so hard to put it together. The whole evening just underlined what a tremendous group of people make up the BMAD family - and that's just what it felt like last night - one big happy family party. I'm dead chuffed to to be a part of it. Thanks also for my halo - a big surprise. _________________ Shark |

Hi guys.
Had a great evening although we were all totally shattered from the house move.
Thanks to everyone for making us feel so welcome. (I expect the insults and joshing will start soon!)
See you at Bike Night!

Firstly the Thanks.... Tilla, well done for organising a great evening.. Sue and her family, for being the perfect hosts, and everyone who took part in the setting up and running of the whole night.. (Well done to Caleb, brilliant help).
Myself, Jo and Caleb and my parents had a lovely time. The whole weekend from set up to breakdown was so smooth and effortless. It was great to see everyone and also to welcome new people. (got a feeling we are going to have trouble from that PETE guy) lol. This was a night to remember after a challenging year, and I cant wait until the next.
Great......Great.....Great........Great |
