Have just had a breakfast at a new american theme cafe on the totnes rd paignton ( the old kia garage near zoo). It was great good food well cooked and value for money a breakfast with toast and bottomless coffee was £1.95. The service was good too. It also has a good size car park outside and is open til 9pm. So if you are out and about its a good pit stop |

well what a let down!
double deb an myself thought we would have ..i call it dinner she insists its lunch.... well if i were to say the brightest things there were the decor and the chrome rails by the pavement i wouldnt be wrong.
the staff (if you can call them that) out numbered the customers by two to one, so thought this should be fast.....oh dear how wrong one can be. shown a seat in the corner of a nearly deserted cafe.... (next to the kitchen) waiter .very apt name i feel .took our drinks order.ok...not bad.before we could order the food he was gone..........hmmmmm ok stu chill out..its a nice day... well one fag an 20 mins later the drinks arrived (must have been to ceylon for doubles tea and columbia for my coffee) there was more coffee in the saucer than the cup...no spoon.no serviette a bicki in a celophane wrapper (just as well or it would have homologated with the coffee)
drank this.luke warm coffee.....a spotty kid asked if everything was ok.....before i could even ask for some food he had vanished into the crowd of staff. the next time he was spotted was standing out side the window having a smoke with the "manager" and a couple of other waiters.
it was noticed by double that not one of them washed their hands after as well, doesnt bother me but some may not like that.
we finally managed to pry one away from the juke box and get an order in for some food....oh my god!!!!!.silly move!!!.after another eon sat waiting with now bone dry cups the "food" arrived one chicken burger and one hawian beef burger (it had pineapple ring on it that wasnt ripe and still very hard) and a handfull of fries we attacked this food like two starved urchins...all gone (apart from part of the solid pineapple ring and the obligatory steel chips) it wasnt bad but then we were hungry and would have eaten a scabby dog by this time.
now the fast american diner staff really sprang into life when i asked for our bill......was all of one min and the bill arrived on a silver plater...well stainless steel....blimey .they can move fast!
all the speed then vanished as i waited to pay......one till and three operators on it.it was like watching people trying to knit their fingerss together...the wait to pay was ten mins.......then ....whoopie i had paid and made a very swift departure out the door for a smoke.....and a celebration to the fact the over populated waiting staff had forgotten to charge for the drinks.....as if i was going to say anything...
well we stood by the road and deb noticed a moped in a room off the side of the kitchen.......she also pointed out there wasnt a door seperating this from the kitchen.......also no butt bins either so there were loads of dog ends.especially by the "fire exit" by the kitchen where the staff stood and had a smoke.facing the main road and also the entrance
in my opinion i cant see this diner making it into the new year unless they actually employ the american attitude to service.
also the derge that was being played on the juke box......omg!..my grand parents listened to that stuff on the home service!!!. i did notice also that the manager was more interested in putting more cd's into this time machine possibly in the forlone hope it may jig up the staff and motivate them.....well it may be easier to try four kilos of tnt..
over all impression was very poor....ok the decor looked ok but im afraid thats were everything goes down hill from there.
but.....in closing i will say that this is my opinion and it was 1500 hrs on its third day......time will tell. _________________ "No trees were harmed in the sending of this message.

So has anyone actually complained or have we been very British in this "American Diner"? _________________ Ride hard, ride safe

Just been there for an early lunch (welll we were after breakfast but were too late) with Len, Charlie and Wayne and we all agreed that the food was......c*** (not very nice), don't recommend sausage, egg and chips.
On the plus side aparently the banana milkshake with cream on the top was very good indeed and we didn't wait very long to get served.
