Hello to all
Just felt i should leave some info from a Torquay dweller.
Food;
Right ontop of the Bmad fest is the Flagship...your generic pub, microwaved stuf...but go behind it (beachside) and upstairs is a resturant that does better!
or
The Boat House is only about 800 yds along the front (Torquay side) from the main event.
Walk along the main road past the Redcliffe hotel & tucked around the corner, by the beach huts, is this OK place.
Basic mostly home made, Big plate fulls at fair prices...They have a good size outside space for a nice cold beer & watch the boats!
If you fancy a fairly good curry, Newton Abbots EASTERN EYE is GOOD, there are a few about but if you want an intimate meal, Tharicks along the Torquay rd at Preston (just before the Shell garage) or Mirch Masala on the corner of Babbacombe rd & Portland rd in Torquay is nice...The Spice Cluc in Torwood st, Torquay is OK.
Or if you like Dartmoor, head for Widdecombe, opposite the church is the Old Church Inn... car park out back & food is usually good.
Totnes town centre, top of the main street is the Barral House, bit of a hippy hangout & parking not so good/non existant...
If you want special (annivesary special!) then it is either The Orestone just out of torquay on the Teignmouth rd or The Elephant on Torquay harbor...both will need to be booked!! & take your credit card.
On the whole i would say anywhere you go is fairly good food, some of the pubs that are owned by the big chains are putting out low price, high volume food...so you get what you pay for there.
Some of the Big hotels seem to not have a return-too reputation...
As a recent settler to Devon and therefore still a Grockle, i have eaten out most saturdays/sundays for the last 5/6 yrs and have tried a fair few places...
If you want any more info on a place im happy to help!
